First Time Blogger: April 9, 2018
I am starting this blog as a 24-year-old who is a first year wife, first year teacher, first year cat owner, first year Illinoian. It goes without saying that this past year has come with many changes. Is that not enough? Might as well add in -- this is my first ever blog. The purpose of this blog is to tell my story as a seventh-grade teacher in a public, urban school district and all that comes along with it. Including, my life as a wife and a reluctant cat mom to any who is interested, or bored on Monday evening.
For my first ever blog post, I’ve decided what a better way to start, then to talk about where I come from. Plus, it’s my favorite thing to do. As I mentioned, I am a first year Illinoian. My husband and I have moved 968.8 miles (which is roughly a 14 hour and 12 minute drive - but who’s counting?) from home. We moved a week after getting married, from South Dakota to Illinois so Stetson (my husband) could pursue a PhD. It was the scariest, most thrilling, and eye-opening jump we have made in our lives so far. I think I can speak for Stetson when I say, moving here has outweighed our wildest expectation.
Snippet from next week’s post:
I come home everyday to an inspiring husband, lately I’ve thought, what am I doing that stretches my boundaries? Some would say teaching seventh grade, your boundaries are already stretched. What would make you want to do that? Aren’t they crazy? Isn’t 7th grade the hardest year of middle school? With 120 students a day that pass through my classroom, I would say they are onto something.
